Into the jungle…Again?

Beeing totally relaxed but also a bit bored from the lazy days in Palomino it was time for adventures again. That also meant visiting a quite touristic place at the coast…Tayrona National Park.

The National Park

The Park features some of South America’s most beautiful coastlines and beaches. After the disappointment that we weren’t able to enjoy the ocean in Palomino we were excited for that!

With about 30 square kilometers Tayrona National Park is one of the largest maritime areas in the Caribbean Sea. Because of its stunning position between the mountains and the sea, it offers a big variety of flora and fauna. The park boasts fascinating wildlife including monkeys like the black howler, iguanas and even jaguars! As there is so much to see we decided to stay for two days spending one night in the park.

Let the adventure begin

After staying in an amazing hostel nearby we started our day into the park around 9 a.m. We rented a tent for the night at the entrance before it was time to head into the jungle! This time without a guide but right at the beginning with a new animal friend. 🐶

Surrounded by all this nature was a great feeling although trekking through the jungle was quite exhausting again. But all the sweat was worth it when we saw the first beaches. It really looked like paradise!

It was possible to walk from beach to beach. As there weren’t that many people around, we made our first break at the beach next to Arrecifes. After the refreshing swim in the ocean we made our way further on to El Cabo San Juan de la Guía. As it is the most famous beach it was a bit more crowded there.

Short night, amazing way back

To end the perfect day we had a little dinner with some beer. Then we happily headed to “bed”. Unfortunately our accommodation for the night, the tent, was not the best choice. It was pretty warm, uncomfortable and a bit smelly…As you can imagine the night was quite short. So we were happy to head to the next beach, La Piscina, in the morning to recover from the night…

The crowning finish of our trip was that we even saw some of the black howler monkeys on our way back out. On the whole it was an amazing trip and a little adventure we needed, before diving deeper into the laid back caribbean attitude…
