Just nearby Trujillo history is really breathing strongly. And that’s where you can find the remaining parts of the once huge city of Chan Chan.
First some short historical facts:
Chan Chan was the capital of the Chimu Kingdom. The culture arose about 900 AD on the Northern coast of Peru. It was the second largest empire in ancient Andes history and ended shortly after beeing conquered by the Inca in 1470.

Chan Chan was the largest city of the pre-Columbian era in South America and the largest adobe (mud brick) city in the world.
The city got listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1986.
After another exciting ride with a local bus, we reached the museum and the first palace, Palacio Tschudi. It is the most restored place and the only palace you can enter.
A local driver took us to the other two places, Huaca Arco Iris and Esmeralda.
Talking about local drivers, we are still not strong enough to resist some offers that sound cheap to us, but are of course way overpriced. So we paid this guy way to much to drive us around in his really “safe” car. ๐
After visiting Chan Chan and a (short but difficult) negotiation with the local driver, we went to Huanchaco. We spend a some time at the beach, just relaxing and watching the ocean. ๐๐
