Tour to the Sun and the Moon

For our first day in Trujillo we decided to visit one of the nearby pre-Inca places, Huacas del Sol y de la Luna (Temples of the Sun and of the Moon).

The owner of our hostel told us that there would be a local “bus” driving to the temples. We went to the street watching for the “bus”, but there were just a lot of bus-like small vans with people shouting out the windows! One guy shouted “Huaca de la Luna” and waved us to get in quickly.

The minivan was already pretty crowded, but more and more people got in on our way! Of course there were no seatbelts or even enough space to sit on. Just like sardines squeezed in a tin we arrived 20 minutes later and only 4 Soles lighter at the temples! 😅🚌

There is a museum with short information and and an exhibition with some artifacts from the Moche People. The Moche were an ancient civilisation which flourished around 100 to 800 AD on the Northern coast of Peru.

Both of the temples, Huaca del Sol y de la Luna, were part of the Huacas de Moche. Unfortunatelly Huaca del Sol (Temple of the Sun) was partially destroyed by the Spanish conquerors. But is under restoration as well as the valley between the two temples. Right now you can only visit the Huaca de la Luna.
