It’s finally getting hotter, much hotter…From the really rainy and cold Chachapoyas we just arrived at the end of the road in the heart of Amazon region: Yurimaguas. We were welcomed with a humid climate around 20 to 30 degrees.
The Journey
But let’s start with the trip. Like every destination in Peru it’s always a long trip to reach it…despite looking close on the map it can take many hours to get there. 😴

We started by bus at 7 a.m. in Chachapoyas to our first destination Tarapoto which should have taken us around 8 hours. But of course it took longer as the bus driver just decided to have “almuerzo” (lunch) with all the passengers in between. Quite nice and with just 10 Soles (around 4 €) for both of us, also really cheap!
Of course Tarapoto wasn’t the end of the road yet and so we had to take a collectivo (a minibus with mostly locals) to reach our final destination. And this trip wasn’t something for a weak stomach. Curve after curve into the mountains which seemed like ages.

After 13 hours on the road we finally made it! This time it really was a hard journey but also the last one by bus for the next weeks. Now we were right at the Amazon and from here on it’s time to get deep into the jungle by boat!
The City
Yurimaguas is the capital of the province Alto Amazonas and the last city reachable by road. It is quite a small city with around 62,000 inhabitants. But don’t expect it to be quiet…There are mototaxis everywhere!

So we are trying to escape this busy roads with our hostel right at the riverside! Despite it looking really basic, it offers everything you need and the view from the terrace is amazing! We were told that sometimes you can even see pink dolphins from here!
Now it’s time to really plan our jungle trip to escape civilisation. As the hostel owner is really helpful the plans are shaping quicker then we imagined. Maybe we will find us surrounded by only nature in the next 24 hours!😅😁
