Goodbye crocodile
With the last sounds of raindrops over the calm river our final day began. We slept a little better and were prepared to head back into civilization again. As it was a long trip of around 6 hours upstream we headed out pretty early.
But of course not without a last view over this amazing place. And that was totally worth it as we saw a small crocodile (kaiman) just laying around next to our cabin! ๐๐
With a last goodbye to the crocodile we headed back. On our way upstream you could see how much power the heavy rains from yesterday had: A lot of trees and palms were hanging into the river and parts of woods were floating around…
Luckily we also saw a lot of the cute little squirrel monkeys again as they were climbing around in the trees and palms close to the river searching for fruits. ๐
The way upstream was quite exhausting, so Christian tried to help with the one extra paddle. It was quite hard work! ๐ถ It all paid off for him as we got lucky to finally see a snake, one of Christian’s favorite animals! Not an anaconda but a really beautiful one!

Everybody was happy about the lunch break with some pasta and a delicious pineapple straight out of the jungle! ๐๐ Alex told us that currently you could get them for 1 Soles which would be about 27 Cents!
After a hard time of paddeling the last part back, we finally reached the shore. Everybody was exhausted but pretty happy and satisfied.

Heading back to Lagunas
We headed back to Lagunas where Alex brought us directly to a hostel. While taking a long-awaited shower ๐ฟ Alex took care about our connection to our next destination Iquitos. We wanted to take a slow boat, which would take about 2 days but is more relaxing. Unfortunately there was no slow boat planned for the next days so Alex picked us up and brought us to the port to search for a fast boat. We found a boat for the next day, that should leave at 12 midnight and would take about 10 hours…
As it was still pretty hot, we decided to get a cold beer with Alex! ๐ป๐ This was really nice as we got really interesting stories from his personal life in Lagunas. It all sounded quite hard as he has to work so much to earn so little money…
After paying the boat and the two large beers for the three of us, we didn’t have any cash left so Alex invited us for local dinner at the port! It was “interesting”… ๐

Sitting, waiting, wishing
The last day in Lagunas started pretty lazy…we changed our hostel for a cheap (and it was really pretty cheap! ๐ ) hostel at the port, just relaxed and hung out.
Around 15 to 10 minutes before midnight we decided to get ready for the boat and headed out the almost vacant port. Like real germans always punctual! As Lagunas is a really small village, the streets were already pretty empty around 8 p.m.!
Just a handful of local people and the two of us were sitting at the port, waiting and wishing for the boat to arrive…When we saw the first lights of a boat slowly coming nearer and nearer, we of course thought that it is time…but it was only a cargo boat with a cow on it! ๐ฎ๐
After about 1 and a half hours (!) of waiting, the “fast boat” finally arrived! As the boat wasn’t that big and it was quite dark, it was not really easy to get on and find a place to sit…The boat was already crowded with people, their children, some chickens in a box and a small puppy Magda discovered at her feet after sitting down next to a local woman! ๐ถ๐๐ถ
Off to our next adventure…Off to the end of road… ๐
