Pirates of the Caribbean

Bienvenidos a Cartagena! Our spontaneous decision brought us to Colombia. As we didn’t know much about the country so far, we just decided to start in the North. The caribbean coast seemed to be a welcome change after the quite cold and rainy Cusco.

But our journey started with some challenges. As our flight from Lima to Cartagena was at 5 a.m. we had a lot of time at the airport. Of course we started looking into current news of Colombia…and were quite shocked when we found out that on November 21st would be one of the biggest national strikes in history. Great timing as we would be landing at around 9 a.m. on this day! ๐Ÿ˜…

With these thoughts in mind we were a bit anxious about how it would be…would we even get into the country…would there be roadblocks everywhere?

But luckily everything was quiet! ๐Ÿ˜ Bogota, the capital, would have been completely different…

The only challenge was that we felt the caribbean weather right away . It was so hot with a high humidity that made us start sweating after the first few minutes. By taxi we were driving along the ocean shore to our hostel. Right there we were so happy for our air conditioned room. ๐Ÿ˜…

We used the first day to get acclimated and just experience the completely new flair. Our hostal was in the perfect location to get to know the caribbean vibe. With our first empanadas and some Venezuelan arepas we called it a day.

Setting sail to Colombia seemed very different than Peru and we were sure that completely new adventures awaited us the following days! ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ
